Meeting Minutes from November 4, 2004
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Martha Murphy, Joann Pustizzi, Irene Roque and Kathy Burns. There were 11 parents in attendance.
Secretarys Report, Treasurers Report
- October meeting minutes were circulated. There were no questions or objections.
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale presented the updated monthly financials.
Parent Issues
- A parent asked about the recent Security Survey which was sent home. Faydeen explained that with the recent security issues in Town, the school department is trying to make a standardized plan for all schools. Kathy Burns further explained that the results of the survey would be presented to the School Committee at their next. The surveys were due back to the Superintendent by Friday, November 3rd.
- A parent asked how often the School Committee meets. Kathy Burns explained that they meet every 2 weeks.
- A parent asked what the Principal’s email list would be used for. Kathy Burns explained that it is for emergency closing of the school (i.e. because of weather). Kathy discussed the proposed town-wide school system reverse 911 system, and she promised to keep us informed about its progress.
Teacher Issues
- Irene Roque expressed the teachers’ thanks for the PTO’s generous increase in funding for the fieldtrip buses.
Administrative Issues
Committees
- Yearbook: The 5th Grade Yearbook Committee had its first meeting on October 21st. Student surveys will be going home in November.
- Carnival: Set for April 2, 2005. The committee had its first meeting. The prize distribution process is being evaluated.
- Fundraising:
- First meeting scheduled for November 11th.
- Approximately $9,000 profit from wrapping paper drive. Distribution to begin next week.
- Magazine Drive: in late winter
- Box Tops for Education: $530 in Box Tops was submitted for reimbursement.
- Looking for people to help with new playground fundraiser
- Newsletter: The 1st issue was a great success. Thanks to Kwik Kopy (located at 95 Cambridge Street) who has volunteered to copy, collate and staple this year’s Publicity Newsletters at no cost to Francis Wyman.
- Health & Safety:
- First meeting held on November 3rd.
- Looking into parking signs for front of building
- Proposed painting fire lanes and handicap spaces at front of building
- Proposed that visits to nurse’s office should result in a notice home to parents explaining the visit.
- Student Enrichment:
- The faculty and students were thrilled with the Mad About Math presentation by Keith Michael Johnson on Friday, October 8, 2004. The show was presented to K-5 in two performances.
- A presentation by Greg Tang has been scheduled for April for grades 2-5.
- The Committee is presently planning an enrichment program for K-1
New Business
School Building Safetysecurity survey discussed.
Winners of Returning Parent/New Parent Raffle
Carol Ann Smith and Valarie Giogas. Each won a gift certificate to Shaw’s. Come to next month’s PTO meeting with a new member to enter the drawing for next month’s raffle.
