FRANCIS WYMAN PTO
Meeting Minutes from September 22, 2005
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Amy Small, Joann Terrio, and Kathy Burns. Vice Principal, Irene Roque was also in attendance. There were 25 parents in attendance.
Treasurer’s Report
- Faydeen presented the updated monthly financials.
Overview
- Faydeen gave an overview of the new PTO membership envelopes and membership numbers to date.
- Faydeen provided an overview of the PTO website.
- PTO brochure provides a detailed description of the workings of the PTO and the committees which comprise the PTO.
Open Board Positions
- There are currently 2 open positions on the PTO Board: co-President and Treasurer. Any one interested in either of these positions should contact Faydeen Sateriale at (781) 272-3755.
Committees
- Carnival: The Carnival Committee is in need of 2 co-chairpersons and subcommittee members. Without these key positions there will be no carnival next year at Francis Wyman.
- Yearbook: 5th Grade Yearbook Committee is in need of 2 co-chairpersons and members. Without these key positions there will be no yearbook provided to the 5th graders at the end of the year.
- Fundraising:
- Wrapping Paper: largest fundraiser for the PTO 50% of total sales is given to the school.
- Box Tops for Education: next deadline is October. This fundraiser accumulates approximately $1,000 annually.
- Magazine Drive: provides magazine subscriptions to classrooms.
- Student Enrichment:
- Greg Tang will be visiting Francis Wyman again this year. Greg will present to the 2nd grade on October 5, 2005.
- Other enrichment activities for this school year are in the works.
New Business
- It was proposed that the PTO pay 50% for each registration for 2 teachers to attend the Learning with Disabilities Worldwide Conference in October. A vote was taken to give $280 for these registrations and all were in favor.
- It was proposed that the PTO continue its $300 donation to the Dollar for Scholars. A vote was taken and all were in favor.
- Mrs. Perry a 5th grade teacher submitted $613.14 in receipts for costs associated with the 5th grade camping trip to Camp Bournedale. A vote was taken as to whether the PTO should cover these costs. All were in favor of paying the $613.14.
- It was proposed that the PTO provide 12 fans to teachers whose classrooms are in need of fans. A vote was taken to appropriate between $350 and $450 for the fans and all were in favor.
Administration Issues
- Francis Wyman students and staff contributed $2,149.52 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina Relief. Thanks to everyone!
- The hall between the Library and Cafeteria has been named Wyman Way. This hallway will become the “wall of good deeds”. The names of those students performing good deeds will be added to the wall.
- Italian Program Mrs. Burns gave an overview of the Theater Arts Group from Rome that will be visiting Francis Wyman November 11th through the 19th. Francis Wyman was selected as the first U.S. performance for this marvelous theater group. There is a great need of help to welcome these performers and their teachers. Anyone interested should contact Kathy Burns or Irene Roque.
