Meeting Minutes from October 11, 2005
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Amy Small, Joann Terrio, and Kathy Burns. Teacher representative Anita Mason was also present. There were 18 parents in attendance.
Secretary’s Report, Treasurer’s Report
- Joann presented the minutes from the September meeting and passed them around the room for all to review.
- Faydeen presented the updated monthly financials.
Open Board Positions
- There are currently 2 open positions on the PTO Board: co-President and Treasurer. Any one interested in either of these positions should contact Faydeen Sateriale at (781) 272-3755.
Parent Issues
- A parent thanked the board for rescheduling the meeting which was previously scheduled during the Jewish holidays. He stresses the importance of scheduling school events around the all religious holidays.
- One parent brought up the fact that the Burlington teachers have been working without a contract since June 30th.
Teacher Issues
- The teachers wish to thank the PTO for the very generous contribution of 12 fans for classroom use.
Administrative Issues
- Italian Program the visit by the Theater Arts Group from Rome has been postponed.
Old Business
- A vote was made and approved to provide the school with two field trip buses per grade (1 bus for two field trips).
- A budget of $650 was approved for the Reading A-Z Program and Dr. Seuss Day.
- A vote was deferred to a later time regarding an approval for an annual gift of $100 to help fund the BHS Graduation Party.
- The artist in resident program budget was approved for $1500.
- The National Education Week Gifts to the teachers were approved. Each classroom will receive a $50 Staples gift card this year.
- School Tour/Ice Cream Social was not received well by the teachers. They found it very disruptive at a time when they were trying to prepare their rooms for the first day of school. A proposal was made to have a “step-up” day on the last day of the school and Ice Cream for the fifth graders in the cafeteria. This met the approval of all in attendance and a formal approval is in progress.
New Business
- A representative of Great America made a presentation to those present regarding possible fundraising programs for the PTO. She provided samples of cookies and pie for all to try.
Committees
- Carnival: Spring Carnival is in need of co-chairs. All areas of the carnival are staffed except for a chair. There will be a meeting the last week of October. If someone doesn’t step up and accept the chair position, the carnival will be cancelled.
- Fundraising:
- Box Tops for Education: Box Tops for Education received $1200 last year. A photo printer was one idea on how to spend the money. Sam Coe will inquire will to see what other school needs could be filled with this money.

- Membership: PTO Membership is 227 families this year compared to 230 last year.
Yearbook: Yearbook Committee Start-up Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 in the Art Room.
- D.A.R.E Graduation x
- Student Enrichment: Susan Laffely of the Student Enrighment Program Committee spoke of the Greg Tang’s visit on October 5. He was a success with the children with his innovative ways of teaching math and was well received by the teachers. Susan proposed that the PTO provide all 2nd grade classrooms with his books. Susan will see if the teachers would like this and what the cost would be.
