Meeting Minutes from January 12, 2006
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:32p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Amy Small, Joann Terrio, Sue Frost and Kathy Burns. Teacher representative Eloise Orsini. There were 5 parents in attendance.
Secretarys Report, Treasurers Report
- Joann presented the minutes from the November 2005 meeting and passed them around the room for all to review. Please note that the minutes are posted on the PTO website.
- Faydeen presented the updated monthly financials.
Welcome
- Faydeen introduced Sue Frost. Sue has volunteered to take on the role of Treasurer. Welcome and a big thank you to Sue for volunteering.
Open Board Position
- There is currently 1 open position on the PTO Board: co-President. Anyone interested in this position should contact Faydeen Sateriale at (781) 272-3755.
Parent Issues
- A parent expressed concern that the sidewalk and walkway outside the YMCA After-School Program were not kept clear. It was agreed this issue would be looked into.
Teacher Issues
- It was brought to the attendees’ attention that the Burlington teachers are still working without a contract. Anyone interested should contact the School Committee members to show their support for the teachers.
Administrative Issues
- A big “thank you” to the PTO for the Staples gift cards presented to teachers from the PTO in honor of National Education week.
- Parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s use of “instant messaging” on the internet.
- Francis Wyman to host Italian Theater Troop visit 4/27 5/6. Three performances are scheduled. More information to come.
Old Business
- The 5th Grade DARE Graduation is on January 30, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the Francis Wyman Auditorium. Amy Small chairing this committee.
- The Francis Wyman Carnival is set for April 1, 2006 from 10-2. Thank you to all who have volunteered to work on this committee. There will be future requests sent out for volunteers as the date of the event draws closer.
- The PTO has purchased copies of some of Greg Tang’s books for the first and second grade classrooms. Four books per classroom were purchased. A big thank you goes out to Valarie Giogas for purchasing the books on behalf of the PTO.
- The Nurse’s office wish to thank the PTO for the $50 donation to replenish the underclothing and sock supply.
- The PTO Survey results are in. There were many helpful suggestions made by the respondents. Thanks to all who participated.
- The PTO will not be doing the Joe Corbi pizza/cookie dough fundraiser this year. Instead, we are currently requesting recipes to be entered in the Francis Wyman PTO Cookbook. The cookbooks will be available sometime in April.
- We are currently awaiting a response from Papa Gino’s regarding the fundraiser night. We are planning on the fundraiser being the day after the Spring Carnival (4/2/06).
New Business
- There was a discussion that the by-laws require the creation of a Nominating Committee for the election of the 2006/2007 Executive Board.
- February 26, 2006 will be Lock Monsters’ Day for Francis Wyman. There will be discounted tickets available to the Francis Wyman Community. Look for further information in the school bulletin. This event will also be a fundraising opportunity for the PTO.
Committees
- D.A.R.E Graduation
The 5th Grade DARE Graduation is on January 30, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the Francis Wyman Auditorium. This event is sponsored by the Burlington Police D.A.R.E. Department and the PTO. Officer Cross to present. A reception will follow the graduation ceremony in the cafeteria. Amy Small is chairing this committee and is looking for a few 4th grade parent helpers to allow the 5th grade parents to attend the event with their graduates.
- Yearbook:
The 5th Grade yearbook is on schedule. Joan Ford and David Rosenberg are looking for more photos of your 5th graders school events only.
- Student Enrichment:
- Author Jennifer Ward (JenniferWardBooks.com) will be at Francis Wyman May 31 and June 1 and meet with every classroom. A set of her books will be purchased for the library prior to her visit.
- All efforts are being made to have Greg Tang’s (GregTang.com) visit coordinated with Math Night. Classrooms are being provided with copies of his books as well as his math game NumSkill Jr.
- Teacher & Staff Appreciation Luncheon:
The Teacher & Staff Appreciation luncheon is scheduled for May. Kathy Webb will chair this committee. Efforts will be made to allow teachers a full 40 minutes to enjoy their luncheon by recruiting volunteers for recess duty.
