Meeting Minutes from March 9, 2006
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:34p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Joann Terrio, Sue Frost and Irene Roque. There were 13 parents in attendance.
Secretarys Report, Treasurers Report
- Joann presented the minutes from the January 2006 meeting and passed them around the room for all to review. Please note that the minutes are posted on the PTO website.
- Sue presented the updated monthly financials.
Open Board Position
- There is currently 1 open position on the PTO Board: co-President. Any one interested in this position should contact Faydeen Sateriale at (781) 272-3755.
Parent Issues
- A parent asked whether there would be a fifth 5th grade teacher added for next year. She expressed concerns that the classroom sizes would increase significantly in going from five 4th grades down to four 5th grade classrooms. Irene said that the School Committee has not approved the addition of a fifth 5th grade teacher for next year. The current operation of 4 teachers and 1 instructional assistant is planned to continue again next year.
Teacher Issues
- The teachers continue to express their gratitude to the PTO for all their support.
Administrative Issues
- The Piero Gabrielli Integrated Theater Group from Italy will be coming to Francis Wyman April 26 through May 5, 2006. Shows are planned for Sunday, April 30 and Monday, May 1. A meeting is planned to discuss the plans for such a visit and to solicit volunteers.
Old Business
- The Francis Wyman Carnival is set for April 1, 2006 from 10-2. Volunteers are needed to assist with the operations of the day. Notices have gone home regarding the various volunteering opportunities available.
- The Francis Wyman Cookbooks with be available for purchase at the Carnival for $8 each.
- The Papa Gino’s fundraising night is Sunday, April 2nd from 12 to 9 p.m. Flyers will be handed out at the Carnival. These flyers are to be handed in at time of purchase at the Papa Gino’s on Cambridge Street. A percentage of sales for all who submit the fundraising flyers will be sent to the PTO.
- The Frankly Francis Wyman Newsletter will be coming out soon. Please note there is an entry form at the back of the newsletter. All students who correctly answer the questions on the entry form and return it to the school will be eligible for a certificate for a free pizza at Dominos.
- The Loch Monsters fundraiser generated approximately $500 for PTO programs. 159 Francis Wyman family members attended. A great time was had by all.
- Approximately $1,000 was raised by the Box Tops for Education program this year. The committee is trying to decide what to do with the money. This money will be used to specifically purchase items for the children of Francis Wyman.
New Business
- The Sons of Italy in Woburn is having a Scholarship Dinner on April 1, 2006
- Mike DeSimone, a Francis Wyman parent and Candidate for School Committee, stopped by to introduce himself to those in attendance at the PTO meeting. Anyone wishing to contact Mike may due so via email at mfd4schools@comcast.net.
- A representative from the Burlington Education Foundation (BEF), Darcy Sunnerberg, made a presentation to those in attendance. Darcy discussed the fact that the BEF funds grants from Burlington teachers. November and March are the grant application deadlines. Darcy and Amy Small are the BEF representatives for Francis Wyman.
- Field Day is scheduled for June. A parent representative is needed to assist with purchasing and distributing water, Popsicles and bubbles.
- There was discussion about a Nominating Committee for PTO Board members for next year.
Committees
- Yearbook: The 5th Grade yearbook is on schedule. Joan Ford and David Rosenberg are the chairpeople of this committee.
- Student Enrichment:

- Author Jennifer Ward (JenniferWardBooks.com) will be at Francis Wyman May 31 and June 1 and meet with every classroom. A set of her books will be purchased for the library prior to her visit.
