Meeting Minutes from May 18, 2006
Welcome and Introduction
- Co-President Faydeen Sateriale brought the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. PTO Board members present were: Faydeen Sateriale, Amy Small, Susan Frost, and Kathy Burns. Teacher representative Gail Sheehan was also present. There were 6 additional parents in attendance.
Secretarys Report, Treasurers Report
- Faydeen presented the minutes from the April’s meeting and passed them around the room for all to review.
- Sue Frost presented the updated monthly financials. Faydeen added some additional financial updates to bring everyone up-to-date for the end of the year and the start of next year.
Parent Issues
- Thanks to Build-A-Bear for adding to our Summer Ready Program coordinated by Kathy Webb.
- Questions on school schedule were answered. Last day of school is June 22. First day of school will be August 30. And Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for September 1.
Teacher Issues
- The teachers wish to thank the PTO for great Teachers appreciation luncheon especially for lunch and recess coverage.
- Both students and teachers are excited for Jennifer Ward’s visit on May 31 and May 1. Ms. Wards books can be seen on line at http://www.JenniferWardBooks.com/ A total of 52 of her books were pre-ordered.
Administrative Issues
- Kathy Burns proposed participating in Hood’s milk products Sox Tops http://www.HPHood.com/promos/SoxTops/ program from May to October this year. The school who collects the most receives $10K prize. Karen Sullivan will head this program and information will be included in end-of-year packs.
Old Business
- A vote was made and approved to provide the school with two full scholarships for the Summer Reading and Writing Program. This year at being held at Pine Glen Elementary School.
- Field Day on June 2 (rain date June 9) is in need of a PTO representative to purchase bubbles, water and popcicles. Kathy Webb volunteer to take over and will shadow Karen Pflanz this year.
- The Welcoming/Kindergarten Orientation Committee will be at the Kindergarten Orientation (Sept 1 2 sessions) welcoming all new and returning families to Francis Wyman. They will also be promoting this welcoming spirit throughout the year at other events and thru other programs.
- This year's Francis Wyman Spring Carnival made $1,918.65. The PTO reinvested $1,000 of the profit into next year’s carnival. The 2007 carnival is scheduled for March 31. A flyer will be included in the registration information for incoming kindergarten students.
- Basketball hoops are being looked into by administration for the “hard-top” recess area. Box Tops proceeds will pay for this expense next year.
- Box Tops for Education grossed $980 this school year. This will be donated, along with money from last year by the PTO, to fund playground and classroom recess games and equipment.
New Business
- Art and Music department “wish lists” will be reviewed by Kathy Burns to see if they will be covered under the budget.
- On Wednesday, May 24 the Francis Wyman Patriots Trail Girl Scouts planted a Reading Garden located outside the office in the rear of the building around the pine trees. This was made possible with a grant obtained by the Girl Scouts and Hemlicks Nursery gave a 25% discount on all plants. The PTO voted and approved $726 ($250 used from landscape budget) to provide 2 benches for this area.
- Help is needed to organize our new PTO storage room. A donation request for metal shelving and file cabinets parents may have that they no longer want will be added to the weekly bulletin.
- The 2006/2007 PTO Meeting schedule has been set … September 20, October 18, November 15, January 17, March 21 & May 16 … Wednesday evenings … 7:00 8:30 pm … FW Art Room.
Committees
- Carnival: Most of the Carnival Committee will be returning to run next year's carnival.
- Fundraising:
- Box Tops for Education: Box Tops for Education will need a new Coordinator. Sam Coe has run this program for many years; his son will be moving on to middle school next year. He will stay thru the September/October Drive to help train the new coordinator.
- Newsletter: The last Frankly Francis Wyman newsletter will be distributed in June.
- Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration x
- Landscape Committee: The Landscape committee is in need of a chairperson (2007/2008). Karen Sullivan, who has chaired this committee for many years, has a daughter who will be moving on to the middle school. She will be happy to share her expertise with members who are interested in this position and you can shadow her next year and learn all about this great committee that keeps our school looking beautiful.
- Nominations are being accepted for teachers Star Awards … contact the BEF.
- Four Camp Bournedale tuitions ($150 each) were approved for next year. Thanks to Jim Martin’s donation of the luggage transportation vehicle, more funds go directly toward tuition.
- The Francis Wyman Spiritwear sale will be on a pre-order basis and run from Sept 5 Sept 21. A display of all items for sale (gray short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts, gray hoodie sweatshirts & plaid pj bottoms … all with blue/white “Francis Wyman Elementary” on the front) will be at the two Open Houses on Sept 6 & 13.
- Cookbooks are available in the office at $8.00 a copy. Approximately 160 of the 500 copies have been sold to date.
